Galway Hooker
'Inspiring'- Un-enhanced photo of sunset' from my studio window, 10.15pm. Here are images of a painting started this month, the first of four large seascapes: Began roughly sketching out an idea fresh in my head, a scene from the west coast, boat in foreground with distant cottages. Halfway through decided to change my boat to a 'Galway Hooker'- suiting better the colour palette I have in mind. Next morning I started to apply quick washes, predominantly Black, Red and Blue.

Foxes
Started this Canvas from an old sketch and setting out a palette of browns, blacks and oranges went straight at it: Here's some snaps of the painting from the first few washes to the finish. The painting developing and coming through like an old Polaroid: 'Foxes' Sold

Ships in the Night
Began two large canvases, both seascapes and similar in composition. In both paintings I want to concentrate on movement and light. I have limited my colours to a dark palette of Ultramarine, Phthalocyanine Blue and Naples Yellow. My plan is to mix and set out my paint and brushes before starting, everything at the ready, so I can swiftly apply the paint in an effort to keep the background as loose as I can. Having finished a feverish first sitting, I scraped away the exce

Spider Monkeys!
'Spider Monkey' Sold Above is a painting which I finished and sold way back in 2005 pictured together with my original pencil drawing. Although my paintings find new homes it is great that over the years I have kept my original drawings and archived photos which I frequently use for reference and learning. I decided to revisit this composition in a new medium, Glass Painting: 'Spider Monkey, 2017' Finished Painting, ready for re homing!

Dancing Forms
Something very different! I aim to paint movement and light battling two dominant colours 'Red' and 'Green' against each other, working from a sketch which has been hanging in my studio for the last couple of months- Firstly I applied a quick wash of colour to the background of the canvas bringing in light from the top left hand corner. Played around with a few strokes of red and green- 'finding my way in the dark'. Worked on 'Red' and 'Green' simultaneously adding strokes of

The Bosch Project: ‘Art & Music’
Where Art & Music converge, a homage to Hieronymus Bosch c. 1450 - 9th August 1516: Simon senior, introduced me to the world of Hieronymus Bosch when I was a young lad and ever since I have been fascinated by the artist and his paintings. Earlier this year I traveled to s-Hertogenbosch, the Dutch home-town of Hieronymus Bosch for some final inspiration and motivation having worked on this project over the past two years. I was also there to mark the 500th anniversary of thi
