“The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul”
Kandinsky.
Simon Meyler was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Raised in a strong artistic family environment and greatly encouraged by his father, who was also an artist, he naturally developed a deep love of the arts from an early age. Always receptive to diverse artistic styles, he explored every aspect with the aim of forging an innovative interpretation of everyday subjects, which has matured into a style that is uniquely his own.
Each painting evolves from rapid sketches and observations, spontaneous reactions to the life forms, landscapes and everyday objects he witnesses in the world around him. Simon selects only a few simple elements, which he deems important and essential to express the feeling and atmosphere he wishes to convey. This results in a logical and sometimes sophisticated synthesis.
Applying his palette, pencil lines are replaced with bold flowing brushstrokes, which are often wrought into swirling decorative patterns in order to achieve the desired effect. Colour is one of the tools, which provide him with a wealth of creative opportunities. Particular attention is paid to the colours black and white. Both are applied with careful consideration; Black being utilized to bring forward and emphasize shades of colour and white to soften or break the harmony.
His subjects vary from land and seascapes through to nature and figurative studies, transferring to the canvas all that he sees and feels, disregarding commercial trends. He also perceives a parallel relationship between art and music, believing both to share the same aesthetic and spiritual qualities. An accomplished musician, he treats each painting as he would a musical composition, endeavouring to achieve the same harmonious interaction between the artist and his viewer as between the musician and his audience.
Simon Meyler is an artist who is achieving a growing recognition for his distinct and appealing work. His paintings are imbued with an inimitable energy and colour, attracting collectors worldwide.
